It is a virtual knockout contest set up in Group B of Asia Cup 2022. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh would fight it out in the middle to survive in this competition. The side winning this game would qualify for the Super 4 while the other would have to pack its bags and go home.
The Sri Lankan team has had a poor run in this format and the side has won only twice in the last ten games they have played. Their batting line-up has been in shambles and the side has hardly put up a big score on the board. It is expected to be a close contest as stakes are high for both teams. Team News
Sri Lanka: Dasun Shanaka’s team suffered a crushing defeat in the last. The side has been struggling for form in recent months and their lack of confidence was to be seen as they went down by 8 wickets against Afghanistan. It was a terrible batting performance as they folded up for mere 105 runs on the board. Shanaka would need his batsmen to deliver the goods in this game as they fight for survival.
Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis went out cheaply in the last game and the pair need to set up a good opening wicket stand. Charith Asalanka must do well at No. 3 and add runs with Danushka Gunathilaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Wanindu Hasaranga, Shanaka, and Chamika Karunaratne can play their strokes and the side would expect runs from them in this game.
The bowling attack also looked toothless in the last game. The side would expect to see better spells from Maheesh Theekshana and Dilshan Madushanka with the new ball. Hasaranga is the key bowler for the side, and he needs to do well in the middle overs. Chamika Karunaratne and Matheesha Pathirana shall need to do well in the supporting role.
Bangladesh: It was a sloppy performance from Shakib Al Hasan’s side in their last game against Afghanistan which they lost by 7 wickets. Most of their batsmen looked rusty and this would worry the skipper. It is a do-or-die contest, and the Bangladeshi skipper shall want his players to apply themselves in this game.
Mohammad Naim and Anamul Haque shall have to play well at the start of the game. In the middle order, the experienced duo of Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim mush show the way and build partnerships. They shall need to negotiate the tough batting conditions well. The side would expect to see big hits from the likes of Afif Hossain, Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain as all three of them are good hitters of the ball.
Shakib bowled brilliantly in the last game, and he will need good support from Mustafizur Rahman with the new ball, Taskin Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan also bowled tight spells and the same would be expected from them in this contest. Mohammad Saifuddin and Mosaddek Hossain make it a strong bowling attack.
